Dyes & Stains, Electrophoresis, Detection

Electrophoresis loading dyes are essential reagents used in gel electrophoresis practices to assist with the loading and tracking of samples into cell wells.
The dye is visible during the loading step, which makes it easier to load a specific volume of the sample and ensure the gel wells are accurate.
Gel electrophoresis loading dyes can provide visual confirmation that samples have been added to the gel wells and can minimize the possibility of repetition.
Gel electrophoresis loading dye is also ideal for sample identification, as when multiple samples are run on the same gel, loading dyes can contain different dyes for each. Loading due can also be added to the sample to make it easier to pipette the small volumes and reduce the risk of sample loss or cross-contamination.
Suitable for use with a range of electrophoresis techniques, including DNA gel electrophoresis, protein gel electrophoresis, and the type of analysis being performed.

  • EvaGreen® dye is a green fluorescent nucleic acid dye with features that make the dye useful for several applications including qPCR and DNA melt curve analysis, real-time monitoring of thermophilic helicase-dependent amplification (tHDA), and capillary gel electrophoresis.

  • Biotium

Acridine orange (AO) stains dsDNA green (525 nm) and RNA or single stranded DNA red (650 nm).The dye is membrane-permeant and its nucleic acid binding property has been used for cell-cycle studies.

  • PMA (propidium monoazide) dye is a DNA modifier invented by scientists at Biotium. It is a photo-reactive DNA-binding dye that is useful for determination of microbial viability by qPCR.

  • IBI Scientific

Ethidium Bromide can be used to detect both single and double stranded nucleic acids (both DNA and RNA). However, Ethidium Bromide does not intercollate into single-stranded DNA very well; therefore, the fluorescence of single-stranded DNA is relatively poor in comparison to double-stranded DNA.…

  • AdvanStain Ponceau rapidly detects proteins on nitrocellulose and PVDF membranes, allowing you to check the quality of protein transfer before proceeding to Western blotting. With AdvanStain Ponceau, you can quickly make sure that protein transfer has been even across the entire blot, and that no…

  • Rapid : 15 minute, non-toxic, safe, 1-step stain. No organic solvents! No phosphoric acid! Sensitive : 50 times more sensitive  than other rapid stains. Lower limit is 5 ng protein standard. Linear Range : Very low background enabling accurate quantitation of proteins. High…

  • IBI Scientific

IBI’s ready-to-use 6X loading dye is ideally suited for agarose electrophoresis of DNA, RNA, or nucleic acids. Its ultra pure grade ensures quality and repeatibility every time you use it. The light blue, indigo, and magenta dyes will clearly show the migration of each run, and the dyes…

  • Propidium iodide (PI) is a membrane-impermeant nucleic acid intercalator. The dye is commonly used to selectively stain dead cells in a cell population and also used as a counterstain in multicolor fluorescent imaging.

  • IBI Scientific

IPTG is an inducer of β-galactosidase activity in E. coli. It is commonly used in conjunction with X-GAL to detect lac gene expression in cloning applications, thus allowing detection of recombinant molecules.

  • Biotium

DAPI is a popular blue fluorescent DNA dye. The dye binds to the minor groove of dsDNA with approximately 20-fold fluorescence enhancement.

  • IBI Scientific

X-GAL is histochemical substrate for β-galactosidase, allowing the detection of lac gene expression. To make a stock solution of X-GAL, dissolve the X-GAL in dimethylformamide to make a 20mg/ml solution. Note: Use either a glass or polypropylene tube. Add 4ml of this solution per liter of…
